Printed fabric is one of the most popular ways to add color and excitement to your sewing projects. Whether you're looking to make a custom quilt top or simply decorate your living room, printed fabric can give your design a unique and personal touch.

Printing textiles has been around for centuries and there are a number of different methods you can use to get your design onto a fabric. Some of the more traditional methods are block printing, resist dyeing and stencils.

The first method, block printing, is a technique that uses wooden blocks that have designs carved into the surface of them. These blocks are then dipped into ink and stamped on the fabric. Once the fabric is dry, the block is removed and the original design reappear.

Resist dyeing is another traditional printing method that involves marking the cloth with a wax or paste, then dipping it into a dye bath. The dye adheres to the areas where the wax has been applied, but not to the rest of the cloth.

Digital printing is another popular way to get your design on a piece of cloth. This involves sending your artwork from your computer to a specialised printer that specialises in printing on fabrics and other textiles.

In addition to being able to choose from a range of colours, digital printing is also incredibly easy to use and enables you to create a custom designed pattern that will look great on your chosen fabric. Some digital printing companies even offer the option to have your custom design printed on a whole yard of fabric!
